While in high school, Kat was a straight A student who focused what energy she had left after school work on rowing for her high school crew team. Being a four-year varsity athlete taught her many lessons about hard work and commitment to a team and a goal. Kat was also given the opportunity her senior year to intern with the non-profit, political organization No Labels. During her internship she learned about the workplace environment, politics, and how to "make a deadline." After graduation, Kat started caddying at Columbia Country Club. It wasn't long before she and her mom packed the car with dorm decorations to make the 22 hour drive to the Lone-star State.
Kat is finishing up her second semester of sophomore year and is already deeply involved in the campus. She rushed in the fall and pledged Kappa Delta Sorority. She is extremely active in her sorority, holding multiple leadership positions. As the Assistant to the Vice President of Community Service, she was responsible for organizing the fundraisers and girl scout events that Kappa Delta puts on over the year. The other side of her life at UT is her work with The Daily Texan. She is the associate editor for the Life and Arts section. Most of her time is spent in the fluorescent-light basement where she hangs with other writers and editors, edits four or more stories a day and eats free baked goods left by the Managing Editor. Her focus is on general issues stories around the UT campus and Greater Austin area.
In the coming years, she would love to travel to Europe and Australia through study abroad programs while continuing to pursue her career in journalism.
